Sound Therapy for Children
In addition to the sessions for adults,
I also host sound therapy sessions specifically for children on the cancer journey.

These sessions are play based and the children get to try the instruments and express themselves through movement and sound. The sessions are fun, engaging and interactive. They are also calm and nurturing.
Parents accompany their child for the session and there is no payment requested.
All I ask is that each person brings a plate of something healthy to share with everyone else.
This is so that after the session, we can provide the children and parents with healthy finger food and give them a chance to further bond with those around them. Hopefully everyone can make some friends along the way!

I am experienced in working with sound for children and I hold an updated DBS.

Please note that sound therapy is not suitable for children who are epileptic, have metal plates in the head, a pacemaker or severe mental health illness.
Please check with your pediatric oncologist to ensure that sound therapy is suitable for your child.
The sessions will be held at the Goring Parish Hall RG8 7NY during the Winter months and in my beautiful garden in the Summer months.

Benefits for children
Sound therapy can offer various benefits for children undergoing cancer treatment, including:

-
Stress Reduction: Cancer treatment can be stressful for children and their families. Sound therapy, especially soothing sounds like gentle music or nature sounds, can help reduce stress levels, promoting relaxation and calmness.
-
Pain Management: Sound therapy has been shown to help alleviate pain perception in various medical settings. For children undergoing cancer treatment, experiencing pain is common due to procedures, surgeries, or the disease itself. Listening to calming music or sounds can serve as a distraction from pain or even reduce its intensity.
-
Emotional Support: Coping with cancer can be emotionally challenging for children. Sound therapy provides a non-invasive form of emotional support, offering comfort and a sense of security during difficult times. Music, in particular, has a powerful ability to evoke emotions and provide a source of solace.
-
Improved Sleep: Cancer treatment regimens can disrupt sleep patterns in children, leading to fatigue and affecting overall well-being. Sound therapy, such as listening to soft music or guided relaxation tracks before bedtime, can promote better sleep quality by inducing a state of relaxation conducive to falling asleep and staying asleep.
-
Enhanced Quality of Life: By reducing stress, managing pain, and supporting emotional well-being, sound therapy contributes to an overall improvement in the quality of life for children undergoing cancer treatment. It can help them better cope with the challenges they face, fostering a sense of normalcy and enjoyment amidst their medical journey.
-
Non-Invasive and Safe: Sound therapy is non-invasive and generally safe for children, making it a complementary approach that can be easily integrated into their cancer treatment regimen without significant side effects.
-
Complementary Therapy: Sound therapy can complement conventional cancer treatments, such as chemotherapy and radiation therapy, by addressing various aspects of the child's well-being beyond the physical symptoms of the disease. It can be part of a holistic approach to care that focuses on the child's overall health and comfort.
-
Encourages Expression: Music and sound can provide children with a means of self-expression and creativity, allowing them to communicate their feelings and experiences in a non-verbal way. This can be particularly beneficial for children who may find it challenging to verbalize their emotions or concerns about their illness.

Overall, sound therapy offers a holistic approach to supporting children with cancer, addressing their physical, emotional, and psychological needs to promote healing and well-being throughout their treatment journey.
However, it's essential to integrate sound therapy into their care plan under the guidance of healthcare professionals experienced in pediatric oncology and complementary therapies.
